Real-time monitoring sensors are installed at the wet well to continuously track flow and wastewater strength. These are calibrated to each site and self-cleaning for reliable performance. This creates visibility and quantifies high-BOD and high-COD discharge event volumes and concentrations.
Aquacycl smart systems analyze the volume and BOD/COD data in real-time to determine the threshold where wastewater spikes become costly or difficult to treat. This threshold defines which streams should continue to the existing system and which should be diverted.
When wastewater exceeds the defined threshold, automated controls redirect the high-BOD and high-COD streams away from the main flow into a separate holding tank. The remaining lower-BOD and lower-COD wastewater continues to the existing system, reducing overload and variability.
Diverted wastewater is sent to the appropriate treatment pathway, including Aquacycl’s BETT system when high-BOD treatment is needed. This allows facilities to treat a smaller, more concentrated flow instead of overbuilding capacity to treat large volumes of variable concentrations.
