The Task At Hand:
We are a growing company with 30 employees, currently managing operations at four customer sites, with plans to expand to six sites in 2024. As our Field Service Manager, you will lead a team of technicians who oversee system operations, maintenance, and repairs. Your role is not just about managing the work—it’s about leading people, fostering collaboration and communication, and scaling the operations of the department.
In This Role, You Will:
In this position, you will play a key role in streamlining processes, strengthening teamwork, and improving cross-departmental collaboration. Since we are a small but agile team, we continuously refine our systems and learn from experience. You will have the opportunity to shape our field service operations, drive efficiencies, and create a strong, engaged team environment.
Team Leadership & People Management:
- Manage and grow the Field Service team, ensuring technicians are onboarded, trained, and equipped to succeed.
- Foster an open, communicative environment where technicians feel empowered to share insights, solve problems, and continuously improve.
- Create clear structures for training, knowledge sharing, and collaboration, ensuring technicians can confidently operate and troubleshoot our systems.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to help technicians grow their skills and work effectively as a team.
Operations and Project Planning:
- Lead daily field service operations, including scheduling, travel, troubleshooting (onsite and remote), and system maintenance while ensuring documentation is complete and up to date.
- Work closely with technicians to identify challenges, implement improvements, and enhance overall system performance.
- Continuously assess industry technologies and best practices to improve service efficiency and reliability.
- Ensure field operations align with customer needs and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Lead project planning efforts, ensuring efficient resource allocation, clear timelines, and alignment with company goals.
- Manage budgets and forecast service costs, optimizing spending while maintaining high-quality service delivery.
Communication & Collaboration:
- Act as the key connection between Field Service, Operations, Engineering, and Customer Support to drive seamless communication.
- Maintain open lines of communication, gathering technician insights and sharing feedback to improve system performance and customer experience.
- Work closely with leadership on process improvements, training initiatives, and cross-functional projects.
- Participate in system design and installation, providing valuable field insights to optimize performance.
In This Role, You’ll Bring With You:
- 5+ years of leadership and people management experience in a service-related industry.
- Proven ability to build team culture, foster collaboration, and develop talent.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Experience in wastewater, plumbing, construction, or a related technical field (preferred).
- Familiarity with hydraulic systems, PVC plumbing, and general plumbing knowledge (preferred).
- Understanding of PLC and HMI systems (preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and documentation management.
- Ability and flexibility to travel weekly and work extended hours when needed.
- Ability to safely operate tools, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, and meet travel requirements (valid driver’s license, potential passport required).
Location:
- Based in San Diego. Up to 20% travel expected.
Compensation:
- $110-$115k annually
