BETT – or BioElectrochemical Treatment Technology – has come a long way from concept to commercial wastewater treatment. Although Aquacycl has been commercial for 8 years, the technology has been in development for over 20 years.
This technology is actually a Microbial Fuel Cell, essentially a battery that produces electricity through the metabolism of microbes. Microbial Fuel Cells have been studied since the 1960’s, yet Aquacycl is the first company to successfully make it commercial.
How? We took a different approach, making smaller fuel cells that work in concert to treat wastewater.
